The first time I saw a cinemagraph pop up on my news feed, I couldn’t stop staring at it. I was mesmerized, and I simply had to know how it was done. I did some research, and read how to make them using Photoshop. It was difficult to do the first time around but I quickly created a workflow that makes this process so much easier. Either using photoshop or Flixel Cinemagraph Pro, you will soon be able to easily create cinemagraphs that will wow just about anybody.
What is a Cinemagraph?
In the simplest sense, a cinemagraph is a still photo with parts the image moving. It sounds complicated but I will show you the easiest way to create these magical images. Traditionally, cinemagraphs were created using a small video clip that has been shot on a tripod and then edited in photoshop. While many photographers prefer this way, there are other ways to create cinemagraphs as well. In this tutorial series I am not only going to show you how to create cinemagraphs in photoshop but also using Flixel Cinemagraph pro, a piece of software for the mac that will creates cinemagraphs quickly and easily.
With my workflow, not only can you create flawless cinemagraphs in minutes, you can can even film them using your phone, edit them in either photoshop or cinemagraph pro and then easily share them across all your social media profiles. The whole process from start to finish can take as little as a few minutes if you follow my easy workflow method.
